Protests in Bulgaria continue, Prosecutors Outraged and Prisoner Wins Court Battle

Anti corruption protestors have taken to the streets of Sofia for the eighteenth day in a row. The protestors claim Bulgarians have been let down by current and past politicians as well as by civic institutions. They point to corruption and ineptitude in the judiciary, police and prosecution.

At the same time prosecutors are complaining about local media outlets that publish details of leaks wiretaps showing collusion among prosecutors and members of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Meanwhile Jock Palfreeman has won another court battle. The Sofia City Court decided that the  director of Sofia Central Prison had acted in contravention of prison law and the European Convention of Human Rights in denying Palfreeman the ability to continue his university studies.

Palfreeman has served 5.6 of a 20 year sentence for murder with hooliganism and attempted murder after an incident on 28 December 2007 in which a young law student named Andrei Monov died.
