Hristo Monov Apologises

On the seventh day of peaceful protest in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, Hristo Monov has been forced to apologise for the remarks he made Bulgarian anti corruption protestors.

In media interviews Monov had described the protestors as ‘internet lumpen’ and suggested that parents who let their children attend the rallies should be forced to relinquinsh their children to better care. A social media furore has raged for the past twenty four hours with calls for the  newly elected member of Parliament to stand down.  The controversy has been embarrassing for the Bulgarian Socialist Party and at least one senior member of government had distanced the party from the commentary.

Monov is the father of the young man whom Jock Palfreeman was found guilty of murdering. He played a significant role in the trial, demanding that Palfreeman be given life without parole. He has maintained a public protest against the 20 years sentence and before the May election was reported as saying that if elected he would do what he could to ensure Palfreeman was not transferred to an Australian prison.
